I agree with quadro on the camo issue. The idea is always to break up outlines, reduce glare, give false shadows and depth, and avoid regular patterns. The same applies to face paint (if you are so inclined) work to make the high areas seem lower, the lower areas seem higher, reduce the shine on what you are painting, and generally do everything you can to make it look like anything BUT a rifle or anything man-made. And Black is always too dark, even at night. You'll notice that the F-117 and the B-2 arent really black, but a dark grey. At night, you lose all color vision as your eyes switch from cones to rods, so color itself isnt nearly as important as shade and tone, and since everything darkens at the same rate, black becomes SUPER dark at night. Also, in this arid environment, black is no only unnatural its downright OPPOSITE of everything you see around you. You'd almost be better off painting it stark white.
