What is the best combat light?

Postby Gills on Tue Apr 27, 2010 8:23 am

Hello good friends.
I've been thinking about buying a combat flashlight to put on my MOE handguard for a more complete look, and I have a few questions.

How many lumens is enough lumens? Witch is better Rechargeable or cr123 type flash lights? And what is the best all around flashlight on the market that is the best use for airsoft? thanks for any answers.

To be honest, you could fork out a 50 dollar flashlight laser combo on Amazon (which is what I did. Bought one meant for Real Steel), and it's great. It's incredibly bright, enough so that just flashing it at someone's eye will blind them and give them that glare.

Or you could spend 15 bucks and get a weaver mount Crosman flashlight that does just a good a job. It won't blind anyone, but you'll be able to see very well.

I have both, and they both work great.

pay attention to features like a pressure switch, and amount of lumens.
150 lumens is the norm, but for awesome range, brightness, but fairly short battery life look for something over 500 lumens like this--

G&P also has superb lights, like this one with adjustable brightness, and strobe feature.

Get one of these and a ring mount and you are good to go. They are cheap and probably the best quality.

Surefire. Pricey, but you know it's quality.

I have one of these http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1317 .It's very bright. The only issue is LONG ship delivery times. as soon as I have an extra 25.00 to play with I am buying another one. it's almost as cheap as buying another bulb.

I use 123's in it instead of the 18500's.

You could get a Solar Force L2 (Surefire 6P knockoff, with a forward clicky, if I remember correctly)

Here's the list of stuff you'd want, if you can't afford a Surefire 6P:

http://www.lighthound.com/Solarforce-L2 ... _2629.html

http://www.lighthound.com/Solarforce-PT ... _2472.html

http://www.lighthound.com/AW-18650-Prot ... _3125.html
2 of these

And finally: http://www.shiningbeam.com/servlet/the- ... ery/Detail

Total price: ~$70 for the light, with a 250 lumen LED dropin, that will last about 5 hours on a single cell (plus or minus a little while). AW brand lithium ion batteries are pretty much the best quality cells you can get.

The dropin throws a nice beam about 100-150 yards. You can use 2 CR123's with it, if you want (accepts 3.6-13 volts input) JUST DONT MIX CELLS OF DIFFERENT BRANDS/AGES/TYPES/CHEMISTRIES! You WILL have a potential pipe bomb!

Ends up costing about the same as a Surefire 6P, but you have a lot longer battery life, due to the rechargeable cells (and the fact that LED's are WAY more efficient than incandescent bulbs), and the 6P doesn't come with a tapeswitch

Don't bother calling "Surrender" on me, unless you are A) Right by me or B) Shooting 450+ with .20's. I WILL shoot you if I see you, otherwise. I am stubborn, and don't like to surrender. Consider yourself warned.

I might look into this one. Is it possible to put a high luman lamp in it? like a 500 luman lamp that is compatible with that set up?

Trust me, you DONT need 500 Lumens. 125 is about 3-5 times brighter than a maglite. getting 500 lumens goes way beyond illumination into the batter-powered-flashbang region.
