Try actually breaking them in, stripping them down, and cleaning them out. They'll always work after that, assuming the gun's compatible.
There is no other brand of mags but MAG as far as I'm concerned. And there's really no excuse not to use them. They're well-priced, they work great (or at least better than average, assuming you maintain them), you can get them for most styles of guns (M4, AK47/74, M14, MP5, P90), and they even make metal ones now, which you can get from AirsoftGI.
I've been using the same set of MAG M4 mags for over a year, and they've never misfed on me even once, using them in just about every Armalite style gun I've gotten my hands on, plus both an A&K M249 and my L85. AND I bought them used. I think it speaks to their survivability and compatibility, if nothing else.
When in doubt, call it out.
