Just a general rant about my wonderful (sarcasm) experiment of attempting to create a sweet air soft sniper rifle. My first mistake was to assume I could start with a reasonably cheap base, enter the 200 dollar (less tax) UTG L96 shadow ops with included scope from the DP speedway shop. Now, I had heard these were hit and miss and far as QC, but after some tweaking they are very nice out of the box to start.
Mine was MISS, after some wildly inaccurate shots while dialing in the pretty nice scope that came with it, I noticed that even with the hop up cranked the gun failed to range past 60 feet, at any adjustment. I then proceeded to strip the rifle down, for the "tweaking" recommended. wiped down the excessive grease, evened out the barrel spacers and secured them with some tape. Then I noticed were my problem was most likely coming from...on the back of the hop up unit is a small strip of plastic holding a spring down...and it was busted... not really sure what this does but just by process of elimination I am assuming this is why there is no 'hop" or range on this rifle. Knowing DP doesn't exchange or return rifles I will have to eat this one, until I get some spare cash for upgrades I suppose.
Then to top things off, some extras I ordered from AEX, a Guarder barrel adapter and flash hider were both crummy as well. after cleaning the female threaded flash hider threads with a brass brush now it finally threads correctly on a 14 mm male end. The adapter that AEX claims to not have anymore of, but continue to list in stock to this day http://www.airsoftextreme.com/store/ind ... ts_id=2402
was not a Guarder adapter but a laylax, and was FUBAR, the threads were shot on arrival with wide imperfections in the machining. I have yet to receive even an apology from AEX on that one.
My point? If your going to build a sniper rifle from a cheaper base, be ready for a headache. So far I have spent about 300 dollars that I could have spent on another quality AEG and have a Lemon to show for it.
