wondering what this is?..

Postby NHtucsonaz on Sun Aug 02, 2009 5:34 pm

i never opend up my TM ak since i got it over a year ago except to put a tight bore in it. i have some shooting problems with it so thats what made me open it up and this is my question... i took out the gear box and took off the motor from it and i noticed alot of ,the best way to describe it, small shreads of somthing but when i rub it with my fingers it dosnt feel like shreads it feel like grease but it looks fiberous, theres alot of it right where the Pinion Gear meets the 1st gear in the box.. is it the gears grinding off or is it grease? should i take it all off? Not sure what it is cause my ics mp5 didnt have this when i opend that up..

Could be grease with dirt mixed in or it could be shavings or something. Get some pictures up. IF you have some extra grease I would just change it out.

Host your images on a website such as Imageshack, and they will automatically give multiple ways to post your photo and then its just copy, paste.

Grease doesn't go bad. You don't have to clean your gearbox regularly to make it work. I've read and MET people who have had guns stock for YEARS without opening them up.

DON'T get systema internals...........in fact just stay away from anything systema (except hop up rubbers, those are ok for some). Ever heard of the systema 'revolution' gearbox? Yea real big revolution for something that doesn't even work

To the OP, most likely dirt or small shavings of your gears. If you want better advice take pics. Clean your gearbox up, and inspect EVERTHING for chips, cracks, etc... before you put it back together................oh and BE CAREFUL about the trigger......once that bad boy pops out your gonna have a lotta 'fun' getting it back in.

Sorry I can't let bad info spread. DO NOT LUBE EVERYTHING WITH A FLAT SURFACE. You'll be wasting lube, you won't have enough grease on high contact points, and the extra grease will DO MORE harm than good. Lube goes on:

-the teeth of your gears
-rails that your piston rides on
-VERY CONSERVITIVE amount on the rails where your tappet plate moves

THATS IT. Anything else is just over doing it.

Those look a lot like metal shavings. I would clear then out and see which of the gears is worn.
