M249 electrical:

Postby Gills on Mon Nov 09, 2009 4:57 pm

I am still having troubles with the electrical problems with my SAW. when i took it out side to test it one day, it gave a few slow shots and then stopped working, with a 10.8 battery. It had stopped working after that.
it has a Guarder High torqe motor in it, less than 30 shots used.
I have right now finshed making a new wire set for the SAW, and it still refuses to work. Brand new, 12 guage wiring. when triggered, the wiring makes a little jump indicating that it is flowing, but the motor refuses to move.

Could I have fried the motor? What else could it be? It is an almost brand new motor. and brand new wiring. Any suggestions are thankful and appreciated.

BTW, the battery is not dead or malfunctioning.

Shimming could be bad or your gears could be bound up in some way. This will often times cause the motor to seize or eat unreasonable amounts of juice.

The gears are running smoothly. I thought it was a gear was grinding on the cylinder, but that isnt the case.
When i tried it a little whiel ago, it shot, gave me 4 shots then died.
It seems to give me more shots when i test it with the stock 9.6 battery, about 4-5 shots vs the 10.8 battery, the 10.8 gives me about half of one.
Any advice is appreciated.

Its a Brand New electrical switch i put in with a Brand new wiring set.
when i play with it, I took out the piston and spring and let the gears run by themselfs with the tapet plate. It runs like it is sopsoed 10 shots per seconds. but when i put the spring back in it locks up.

Sounds like gear shimming, you may want to remove the spring and motor and play with the gears while the box is closed. It should spin with little effort. If you feel any grinding or binding you will need to adjust your shim pattern and repeat until you do not.

Have you tried an OEM or lighter spring? It would be good info for you to have wether it binds on any kind of resistance or just heavy resistance.

If you ever get tired of pissing with it and want to go back to stock or start on a new GB from scratch, I still have a brand new OEM gearbox for $80.
